En 1992, les propriétaires de Sumac Ridge Estate Winery, Harry McWatters et Bob Wareham, ont acheté un vignoble inutilisé ici et ont expérimenté la plantation de boutures de vignes françaises pour produire les premiers assemblages de style bordelais de la région. Depuis, la cave s'est forgée une réputation impressionnante pour ses vins rouges audacieux à base de Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz et Cabernet Franc.

Au cours des dernières décennies, Black Sage s'est fait connaître pour ses vins rouges fins élaborés à partir de cépages bordelais classiques comme le merlot et le cabernet sauvignon. Grâce aux sols sablonneux bien drainants, aux conditions arides semblables à celles du désert et aux journées d'été ensoleillées, le terroir ici est idéal pour élaborer des vins rouges intenses et puissants avec beaucoup de complexité et de sophistication.
