The Paitin winery was founded in 1796 by Benedetto Elia, nicknamed “Paitin”, who bought a farmhouse located near Neive, in Piedmont. After several generations, today the company is still owned by the Elia family, and today it covers 17 hectares of vineyards planted with the typical varieties of the area (the reds Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, and the white Arneis). All the vineyards are converting to organic.
The Nebbiolo grapes for this wine come from two vineyards ('d Tourun and Schiena d’Ernestin) located in the Serraboella cru, the most prestigious one for Barbaresco, located south of Neive. From the steepest and hottest side of this hill come powerful wines with great elegance.
The Barbaresco Serraboella Paitin shows a garnet red color with bright reflections. On the nose, it reveals itself as a very refined wine with aromas of cherries, dark berries and plums, candied orange, mint, humus, roots, pine needles, and fine spices with some mineral traits at the end. It is vigorous, with a decisive freshness and abundant but fine tannins that will guarantee it a long life. It makes a perfect partner for any game dish and aged cheese.
A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!
