Rochioli Estate Chardonnay 2013

The Rochioli Estate Chardonnay is a blend from Rochioli’s estate vineyards, exhibiting complex characteristics from the combination of grapes grown across the family’s 162 acre site. Aromas of poached pear, honey, and lemon lead into a palate consisting of orange marmalade, ripe stone fruit, and oyster shell. A zippy, lemon zest finish lends this otherwise opulent wine balance.

A rich, full bodied style of California Chardonnay, this wine can stand up to heavier food than almost any other white wine. Pumpkin ravioli, eggs benedict, grilled veal chops with mushrooms, or even seared foie gras are some pairings that would work well. A rich, oily fish would also be delicious.

The Rochioli Family began growing grapes in 1934, after moving to a property called Fenton Acres. However, much of the land was initially used for hops, string beans, and prunes, and most of the grapes were used for ‘jug wine,’ sold and drank locally. However, by the 1970’s and 80’s, the Rochioli’s had realized what special grapes they had, and decided to begin using them to make their own wine. At this time, the name of the property was changed to Rochioli Vineyards, and by 1987 they had released their first wine. Their legacy of amazing, estate grown and produced wines has continued ever since.
