Tenuta Ulisse Pecorino 2020

The Pecorino grape has been grown in the central Italian regions of Abruzzo and Marche for centuries. During the 1980s the variety was nearly lost forever, but fortunately thanks to some vines discovered growing wild local producers have been able to reintroduce Pecorino throughout its traditional heartlands.

This example from Tenuta Ulisse is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged on the lees for three months to add extra complexity and smoothness on the palate. The result is a vibrant, fresh white wine with enticing hints of papaya, mango, and lychee. On the palate there is a mouth-watering freshness, creamy texture, and ripe tropical fruit flavours which linger long on the tongue.

The Tenuta Ulisse winery in Abruzzo prides itself on producing pure, modern expressions of the region’s traditional grape varieties from the family’s three estates. This approach allows them to retain full oversight of the grape-growing process from the care of the vines through to the harvest, ensuring only the finest quality grapes so into their wines. Although the contemporary estate was only founded in 2006, the family has been making wine here for generations dating back to Antonio Ulisse who purchased his first vineyard here in the early 1900s.
