A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    La maison de champagne Duval-Leroy est née à Vertus en 1859 de la rencontre d'un négociant, Armand Edouard Leroy, et d'un vigneron champenois, Jules Duval. Cette association commerciale s'est ensuite transformée en une affaire de famille lorsque le fils de Duval a épousé la fille de Leroy. En 1991, à la mort de leur petit-fils Jean Charles Duval-Leroy, la gestion de la maison est confiée à sa dynamique épouse Carol Duval-Leroy. C'est elle qui a lancé la célèbre cuvée Femme de Champagne et a contribué à la croissance récente de la cave. Ses trois fils ont désormais tous pris des responsabilités au sein de la maison.

    La Femme de Champagne est l'une de leurs cuvées les plus emblématiques. Les raisins proviennent des vignobles des Grands Crus d'Avize, Chouilly, Oger et Mesnil-sur-Oger pour le Chardonnay et du Grand Cru Bouzy pour le Pinot Noir (présent seulement en faible pourcentage dans l'assemblage). Le travail expert de Carol Duval-Leroy et de Sandrine Logette-Jardin, son maître de chai, qui vinifient chaque parcelle séparément en fûts de chêne, avant un vieillissement de 9 ans, achèvent le grand œuvre de création de ce vin incroyable.

    Sa robe jaune d'or affiche des tonalités complexes d'une belle maturité. Ses saveurs briochées et beurrées, caractérisées par la prédominance du Chardonnay et les arômes boisés et vanillés dus au vieillissement en fûts de chêne, anticipent la somptueuse sensation en bouche et la longue persistance. C'est un champagne soyeux et complexe, excellent avec les préparations de poissons riches ou avec la volaille. Mais le meilleur accord est avec un suprême de poulet crémeux.
